Printing Foil for Wreath Ribbons – Gold, Silver and Black
Printing foil is what gives your wreath ribbon its professional, long-lasting finish. At Dansk Baandtryk, we carry a select range of high-quality thermal transfer printing foil for heat printing on satin ribbon – optimised for use with our ribbon printer.
With the right printing foil, you get a sharp, glossy and durable print on the wreath ribbon that holds up through handling, transport and display. We offer foil in three classic variants – gold, silver and black – so you can always find the colour that suits the occasion and the ribbon.
What is thermal transfer printing foil?
Thermal transfer foil – also known as hot stamp foil – is a thin foil that transfers colour and shine onto the ribbon using heat and pressure. As the printer presses the foil against the satin ribbon under controlled heat, a thin layer of foil pigment fuses onto the ribbon, leaving a sharp, metallic print.
The result is a print that doesn't rub off, doesn't fade in daylight, and isn't affected by moisture – unlike ink-based solutions. This makes thermal transfer foil the preferred choice in the floristry industry, where wreath and mourning ribbons need to stay presentable from printing to ceremony.
Storage and shelf life – how to look after your printing foil
Printing foil is a precision product, and correct storage is essential to preserving its quality and print performance. All our foils have a shelf life of 12 months from the delivery date and should be stored under the following conditions:
- Temperature: between 10°C and 35°C
- Humidity: between 30% and 80%
- Protected from: direct sunlight and moisture
Stored correctly, the foil will deliver a consistent, sharp print right up until its expiry date. We recommend keeping unopened rolls in their original packaging and storing them in a dry, dark place.
Which foil should I choose for my wreath ribbon?
The choice of foil mainly depends on the ribbon colour and the tone of the occasion:
- Gold is the classic choice for funerals and suits almost all wreath ribbon colours – especially popular on white, natural and dark shades
- Silver gives a more modern, cool look and works beautifully on light and neutral wreath ribbons
- Black is used where contrast matters more than shine – typically on light ribbons, where the text needs to be readable from a distance
If in doubt, gold is the safe choice – it's our best-selling foil and works well across all situations.
Frequently asked questions about printing foil
Which printer works with your printing foil? All our foils are optimised for use with our ribbon printer and deliver the best results when used with the right satin ribbon from our range.
Can I use the foil on all widths of wreath ribbon? The foil is 110 mm wide and fits wreath ribbons up to 100 mm. On 125 mm ribbon, the foil won't cover the full width, but can still be used to print in the centre of the ribbon.
How many wreath ribbons does one roll of foil cover? Gold and Silver (50 m) cover approximately 80 wreath ribbons with 60 cm of text. Black foil (91 m) covers approximately 145 wreath ribbons with the same text length.
What happens if the foil is stored incorrectly? If the foil is stored at too high a temperature, in humidity, or in direct sunlight, the foil coating can be damaged, resulting in an uneven or weak print. Always store the foil correctly to ensure the best result.
